Aliens of Free Spacer: Meet the Atoli

Jeff stomped out of the crowded refugee camp pushing the taller aliens out of his path. The useless medics couldn’t fix his failing rebreather. Still, they were polite enough to mention that he would suffocate in the Nitrogen rich air without it.
He cursed himself for coming to this desolate moon. Those gold Atoli sisters should have told him the provincial authority ejected so many citizens to this drift, before they booked him passage. The jobs they guaranteed were another lie, but Jeff never could resist girls with such beautiful colour.
He faded into the shadows, his natural camouflage blending into the dark alley. Soon a drunken group of humans stumbled down the dark alleyway. Jeff could tell they had jobs, maybe even Free Spacers. A Rebreather for them is nothing, Jeff was pretty sure they didn’t even need one. Humans breathed nitrogen, didn’t they? Jeff was no doctor and couldn’t remember, either way. Still they had what he needed to live, so Jeff slunk forward.
Jeff, a down and out Drifter, is about to encounter a group of Free Spacers in a desperate confrontation. Although literally out his element, Jeff is a common sapient species, an Atoli. These days Atoli, like most sapient species, are members of nearly every society.
Before the rise of the current administration, Atoli females once lead the Golden Matriarchy that dominated the Orion Quadrant. Historic attitudes still colour many of the species regardless of the values of their own societies with many of these characteristics are considered innate biological responses.
The Atoli are one of the smallest common species. They superficially resemble earth lizards, but with few biological similarities. Atoli are profoundly divided by gender. Female Atoli are larger and more dominant than their male counterparts with smooth faces and solid yellow colouring. The most beautiful and regal females have golden scales and a superior attitude. Atoli identify cunning and stealth as masculine attributes and Males have a natural camouflage skin pattern. They also take great pride in an array of sharp spikes along their jaws and tails.
Your Crew sheet will have a section for their Crewmembers important alien characteristics such as nutritional requirements, their number of limbs, respiration, and natural abilities. The Atoli are omnivores with five limbs (including their tail), breathe Carbon dioxide, and have the ability to camouflage themselves to their environment. This ability allows them to hide even in plain sight and makes them better at sneaking then most other species.
Choosing to play an Atoli will not entirely define your character concept. Your Crewmember’s history, duty stations, and personal traits are just as influential. These choices help you develop your Crewmember as the Free Spacer you want to play. Your Atoli can be a deadly duellist, a stodgy engineer, or nearly anything else you can imagine all you have to do is step into their stealthy feet.
